Target Publishing and the OIA to launch 'Getting Active Outdoors'

Target Publishing is working with The Outdoor Industries Association (OIA)to launch “Getting Active Outdoors” – a brand new bi-annual digital magazine designed to inspire the nation to get fitter and healthier, whilst embracing all that the outdoors has to offer.

Following the government’s ground-breaking new ten year cross-governmental sporting strategy, “Sporting Future”, and Sport England’s response “Active Nation”, there is a strong new national momentum to combat inactivity and promote outdoor recreation for exercise and health. The magazine will feature inspiring outdoor activities, easy-to-digest beginner’s guides and destination suggestions.

By encouraging greater participation outdoors, the magazine aims to grow participation, improve health and grow the outdoor market in the UK for all outdoor stakeholders – from brands, charities and local tourist boards through to independent and multiple retailers.

The Facts:

  • 1 in 6 deaths are caused by inactivity*
  • 48% of inactive adults wants to do more exercise*
  • 18.2 million people not currently active outdoors want to re-engage and participate in the next 12 months *
  • Around 700 people a day are diagnosed with diabetes**

OIA CEO Andrew Denton said: “The time is perfect for this publication; there is a significant new outdoor recreation consumer on the horizon. The impetus is there from multiple government departments to get Britain Active Outdoors. We are confident we can reach a whole new customer and help to grow participation, health and the whole market for everyone to benefit from.”

David Cann, Managing Director of Target Publishing, commented: “Through our portfolio of 22 titles we have been committed to improving the nation’s health since our inception in 2000. By working in collaboration with the OIA we are delighted to extend that commitment by publishing a title which will not only change the lives of the nation but will improve the health and wellbeing of generations to come”.

Target Publishing is seeking to secure exclusive distribution agreements with interested parties, including government organisations and charities, with announcements to follow in the coming months.
